Job summary

Prospero Teaching is seeking a SEND Specialist Tutor to engage a Year 11 learner with SEMH and complex needs in 1:1 sessions in Sunderland. The role focuses on re-engagement with learning, building trust, and supporting emotional wellbeing, personal development, and resilience.

Sessions are 15 hours weekly, during typical school hours, with weekly progress reports to track engagement, behaviour and wellbeing.

Qualifications

• Right to work in the UK.
• Enhanced DBS certificate (or willingness to obtain a new one).
• References covering the last two years.
• Experience with SEMH/complex SEND.

Responsibilities

• Build positive, trusting relationships to support engagement in learning.
• Deliver tailored, engagement-focused sessions for a Year 11 learner.
• Support SEMH development, helping regulate emotions and resilience.
• Provide guidance and structure during key education transitions.
• Promote confidence, independence, and life skills through structured activities.
• Create a calm, consistent, and safe learning environment.
• Monitor progress and provide clear feedback to families and professionals.
• Maintain attendance records and complete weekly reports.
