Job summary

Outwood Grange Academy in Wakefield is seeking a SEND Officer to ensure statutory compliance with the SEND Code of Practice and deliver tailored interventions for students. The role involves managing EHCPs, leading the deployment of Teaching Assistants, and coaching staff on differentiation, with training provided and a fixed pattern of hours during term time.

The position is permanent, 37 hours per week during term time plus five days, with a competitive salary and access to pension and CPD

Qualifications

  • Experience of working within a school environment with complex Special Needs and/or disabilities.
  • Proven safeguarding and child protection experience.
  • Ability to track and analyse data to identify students that require intervention.
  • Proficiency in standard ICT packages and understanding JCQ Exam Access Arrangement procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the formal documentation process, including arranging and chairing EHCP Review meetings within statutory timeframes.
  • Coordinate Teaching Assistants and ensure effective deployment of resources to meet SEND needs.
  • Develop and monitor Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and One Page Profiles; manage a student caseload.
  • Provide training to academy staff on differentiation strategies and ensure JCQ Exam Access Arrangements are compliant.

SEND Officer

Hours: 37 hours per week during term time plus five days.

Salary: £28,333.86 to £29,776.73.

Start Date: As soon as possible.

Are you deeply knowledgeable about SEND legislation and passionate about translating policy into impactful student support? Join us as a SEND Officer, where you will be key to ensuring statutory compliance with Sections 6 and 9 of the SEND Code of Practice and delivering tailored interventions. This management position requires dedication to detail, strong leadership in deploying resources, and expertise in managing formal paperwork associated with individualized support.

This is a permanent role. The working pattern is Monday to Thursday 08:00am until 04:00pm and Fridays 08:00am until 03:30pm.

Training and support will be provided.

Responsibilities

You will manage the formal documentation process, including arranging and chairing EHCP Review meetings within statutory timeframes, ensuring the review paperwork is sent promptly to the Local Authority. You will manage Teaching Assistants, ensuring effective deployment of resources to meet the needs of all SEND students.

Key duties involve developing and monitoring effective Individual Education Plans (IEPs), ensuring all students on the SEN Register have robust One Page Profiles, and managing a student caseload. Furthermore, you will provide training and guidance to academy staff on differentiation strategies and ensure the Exam Access Arrangement process is compliant with JCQ Regulations.

Qualifications

Experience of working within a school environment and specifically with children with complex Special Needs and/or disabilities is essential. Candidates must demonstrate proven experience and understanding of safeguarding and child protection issues.

The role requires the ability to track and analyse data to identify students that require intervention, proficiency in standard ICT packages, and a detailed understanding of the JCQ Exam Access Arrangement procedures. Willingness and ability to obtain or enhance qualifications for development is required.
