Job summary

Quantum Scholars is seeking a patient SEND Maths Tutor to provide personalised one-to-one maths tuition to secondary-aged learners in Yeovil. You will support students with SEND/SEMH needs, adapting pace, resources and teaching styles to build confidence in maths and promote engagement.

This in-person role focuses on GCSE topics where appropriate, identifying gaps, monitoring progress and collaborating with parents and other professionals. A DBS check and right to work in the UK are required.

Responsibilities

• Provide personalised one-to-one Maths tuition to secondary learners.
• Support learners with SEND and individual learning needs.
• Teach Maths across the secondary curriculum, including GCSE where appropriate.
• Identify gaps in mathematical knowledge and provide targeted support.
• Support topics including number, algebra, geometry, statistics, ratio, proportion and problem solving.
• Break down complex concepts into manageable steps and adapt pace.

Quantum Scholars are looking for a patient, supportive and experienced SEND Maths Tutor to provide personalised one-to-one tuition to secondary-aged young people in Yeovil.

The successful tutor will have strong Maths subject knowledge and experience supporting learners with SEND and/or SEMH needs. You will be confident adapting your teaching style, pace and resources to meet individual learning needs, while creating a calm and positive environment where the learner can build confidence and engage with Maths.

Experience supporting young people who have experienced barriers to mainstream education, anxiety, school avoidance, disengagement or challenging behaviour would be highly desirable.

This is an in-person tutoring role and is not online work.

The role may involve:

• Providing personalised one-to-one Maths tuition to secondary-aged learners.

• Helping young people develop confidence, resilience and independence.
• Supporting GCSE revision, exam preparation and exam technique where appropriate.
• Encouraging engagement and positive attitudes towards learning.
• Using the learner's interests and strengths to make lessons engaging and accessible.
• Supporting learners who may experience SEMH needs or challenging behaviour.
• Monitoring progress and providing appropriate feedback.
• Building positive and trusting relationships with learners.

Essential requirements:

• Strong Maths subject knowledge at secondary level.
• Experience teaching or tutoring Maths.
• Experience supporting learners with SEND and/or SEMH needs.
• Experience providing one-to-one or personalised educational support is desirable.
• Ability to adapt teaching approaches to meet individual learning needs.
• Experience supporting learners who may have barriers to mainstream education is desirable.
• Experience supporting challenging behaviour would be highly desirable.
