Job summary

Quantum Scholars is seeking a patient SEND Maths Tutor to work in Leominster, delivering personalised one-to-one maths tuition to a secondary-aged learner in-person. You will apply strong maths knowledge and adapt teaching to meet SEND/SEMH needs, breaking down concepts and supporting GCSE maths preparation where appropriate.

SEND Maths Tutor - Leominster

Quantum Scholars are looking for a patient, supportive and experienced SEND Maths Tutor to provide personalised one-to-one tuition to a secondary-aged young person in Leominster.

The successful tutor will have strong Maths subject knowledge and experience supporting secondary-aged learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and/or social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. You will be confident adapting your teaching style, pace and resources to meet individual learning needs, helping the learner develop their mathematical understanding, build confidence and make progress at a suitable pace.

Experience supporting young people with anxiety, school avoidance, disengagement or challenging behaviour would be highly desirable. The tutor should be able to break down mathematical concepts into manageable steps and create a calm, encouraging learning environment where the learner feels comfortable asking questions and developing their skills.

This is an in-person tutoring role and is not online work.

The role may involve:

• Providing personalised one-to-one Maths tuition tailored to the learner's individual needs and abilities.
• Supporting learning across the secondary Maths curriculum, including GCSE topics where appropriate.
• Identifying gaps in mathematical knowledge and providing targeted support.
• Developing understanding of number, fractions, decimals, percentages, algebra, geometry and problem-solving.
• Breaking down complex mathematical concepts into clear, manageable steps.
• Adapting teaching methods, resources and lesson pace to suit individual learning styles.
• Supporting GCSE Maths preparation, revision and exam technique where appropriate.
• Using practical examples and engaging activities to make Maths more accessible.
• Supporting learners who may have experienced barriers to mainstream education.
• Helping the learner develop confidence, resilience, independence and positive attitudes towards Maths.
• Supporting learners who may experience SEMH needs, anxiety, disengagement or challenging behaviour.
• Using positive behaviour strategies and appropriate de-escalation approaches where required.
• Creating a calm, structured and supportive learning environment.
• Monitoring progress and providing appropriate feedback to parents/carers and other professionals involved in the learner's education.
• Building a positive and trusting relationship with the learner.
• Maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.
• Following safeguarding procedures and promoting the welfare of the young person.

Essential requirements:

• Strong Maths subject knowledge at secondary level.
• Experience teaching or tutoring secondary-level Maths.
• Experience supporting learners with SEND and/or SEMH needs.
• Experience providing one-to-one or personalised educational support is desirable.
• Ability to adapt teaching approaches to meet individual learning needs.
• Experience supporting learners who may face barriers to mainstream education is desirable.
• Experience supporting challenging behaviour would be highly desirable.
• A patient, calm, flexible and empathetic approach.
• Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with young people.
• Confidence supporting learners who may be reluctant, anxious or disengaged from education.
• Strong communication and organisational skills.
