Axcis Education in Totnes is seeking a committed Mathematics/Economics Tutor to provide 1:1 learning for a post‑16 student with autism and complex needs, starting October 2026. This full‑time, temporary-to-permanent role offers a pathway to a permanent contract after a successful placement.

You will deliver 1:1 learning to A‑level standard, plan and assess progress, and work closely with colleagues, support staff and parents to support pupil progress in SEND settings.

Qualifications

• 1:1 or small-group tutoring/teaching experience in Mathematics or Economics.
• Strong knowledge of Mathematics or Economics.
• Experience with SEND beneficial.

Axcis Education are working closely to support a well-supported Independent Specialist School in Totnes, who are seeking a committed and enthusiastic Mathematics/Economics Tutor to join their team from October 2026.

• Location: Totnes
• Start Date: October 2026 (As Soon As Possible)
• Contract: Full-Time, Temp to Perm
• Salary: £25,550-£33,200 depending on qualifications and experience.
• Requirement: Mathematics or Economics teaching or tutoring experience, or strong Mathematics subject knowledge.

This is a full‑time opportunity to take responsibility for providing 1:1 Mathematics/Economics learning to a post‑16 student who has autism and complex needs. Some of the contents you will be required to deliver will include A‑level Mathematics. The school benefits from a supportive Senior Leadership Team (SLT) who prioritise staff development, wellbeing, and collaborative working.

The Role

The Ideal Candidate

• Is very competent with their Mathematics/Economics subject knowledge.
• Has experience tutoring or teaching Mathematics/Economics on a 1:1 or group basis.
• Demonstrates strong relationship building skills, particularly for students with SEND.
• Is passionate, proactive, and committed to pupil progress
• Works well as part of a team and contributes positively to school life
