Job summary

Woolmer Hill School in England is seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to provide learning and care support for pupils with SEND. You will work with class teachers to plan and deliver activities, support behaviour management, and promote inclusion across the school.

As a role model, you will help pupils access the curriculum, assist with ICT, and contribute to the development of IEPs, reporting progress to the teachers.

Responsibilities

• Work with SEND children that have significant SEND needs and those awaiting specialist placement.
• Plan and deliver learning activities under the direction of class teachers.
• Assist with managing pupil behaviour and maintaining an appropriate learning environment.
• Report to teachers on pupil behaviour during lessons and issues arising.
• Establish productive relationships with pupils and promote high expectations.
• Promote inclusion of all pupils within the classroom and school.
• Liaise with teachers and other agencies regarding work set for pupils.
• Assist with setting out learning materials.
• Communicate with other professionals to support pupil learning and progress.
• Encourage pupil interaction and engagement with set tasks.
• Respond knowledgeably to questions about procedures and processes.
• Observe and report pupil performance and update records as agreed.
• Ensure health, safety and welfare of pupils at all times.
• Promote social and emotional development of pupils.
• Deal with emergencies following school policies and procedures.
• Support use of ICT in the classroom.
• Provide literacy/numeracy support to enable curriculum access.
• Support for multilingual/bilingual pupils to access curriculum and language development.
• Assist with the development and implementation of IEPs.
• Provide comfort and immediate care in case of minor accidents and report serious incidents; administer first aid if qualified.
• Collect completed work after lessons and return to class teachers.
• Accompany staff and pupils on educational visits.
• Supervise during playtimes and lunchtimes, including assisting with meals.
• Supervise individuals during statutory tests.
• Put up displays to enhance the classroom environment.
• Contribute towards the ethos, aims and work of the school.
• Uphold school policies and targets; participate in meetings and training.
• Undertake administrative duties relevant to the post.
• Take active part in appraising own work against priorities and targets.
• Maintain confidentiality and observe Data Protection Guidelines.
• Understand and comply with school equal opportunities and other policies.
• Carry out any other duties within the nature of the post.
