Job summary

Bolton Council’s Virtual School invites an experienced SEND Lead to improve outcomes for children with a social worker and SEND needs. You will advise schools, social workers, carers and agencies, managing a caseload and monitoring progress through PEP meetings.

You will be a qualified teacher with QTS and SENCO experience, with strong SEND Code of Practice knowledge, safeguarding expertise and ability to build cross‑agency partnerships to secure positive results for children.

Responsibilities

  • Hold a caseload of children and monitor progress via PEP meetings.

  • Promote inclusive practice and prevent exclusion or disengagement from education.
  • Work with professionals to secure positive outcomes for children and young people.

Grade I scp 31 £43,149 to scp 35 £47,665, pro rata £27,988 to £30,917- essential car user allowance up to £963pa
Contract: permanent
Hours: 24 per week
Essential requirement: full driving licence, DBS
Essential qualification: educated to degree standard including a relevant professional qualification (PGCE) QTS

The Role

Bolton’s Virtual School have an exciting opportunity for an experienced and passionate SEND Lead to play a key role in improving educational outcomes for children with a social worker who have, or may have, Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). You will provide advice, guidance and direct support to schools, social workers, carers and partner agencies, ensuring children receive the right support at the right time. You will hold a caseload of children, monitor progress through Personal Education Plan (PEP) meetings, promote inclusive practice, and work proactively to prevent exclusion, placement breakdown and disengagement from education.

About You

You will be a qualified teacher with QTS, an experienced SENCO, and have a strong understanding of the SEND Code of Practice, safeguarding and the barriers faced by children with a social worker. You will be confident in analysing information, writing high-quality reports and working collaboratively with a wide range of professionals to secure positive outcomes for children and young people. We are looking for someone who is solution-focused, highly organised and able to build productive relationships with schools, families and partner agencies. Above all, you will be committed to inclusion, ambitious for every child, and motivated by making a meaningful difference to the lives of children and young people across Bolton.
