Job summary

Bolton Council is seeking a committed individual to join the SEND Assessment Service as we prepare for SEND reform. You will support EHC Needs Assessments and develop and review EHCPs, helping children and young people access the support they need to thrive.

In this role you will work with families, schools and professionals to ensure plans remain effective and meet changing needs. A welcoming team and opportunities for professional development are provided.

Qualifications

• Minimum Level 4 qualification or significant proven relevant experience.
• Excellent organisation and ability to manage competing priorities and statutory timescales.
• Ability to communicate clearly with a wide range of people and build partnerships.

The Role

This is a fantastic opportunity to join Bolton's SEND Assessment Service as we prepare for the next phase of national SEND reform. With significant developments ahead, we are looking for passionate, committed individuals who want to play a key role in shaping services and improving outcomes for children and young people.

Our SEND Assessment Service is a supportive, forward-thinking team dedicated to ensuring children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) receive the right support at the right time. We are proud that children and young people with SEND in Bolton typically experience positive outcomes and support, as recognised in the Local Area SEND Inspection (June 2024).

In this rewarding role, you will work alongside experienced SEND Officers to support Education, Health and Care (EHC) Needs Assessments and the development and review of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). Every piece of work you undertake will contribute to helping children and young people achieve their potential and access the support they need to thrive.

You will also play an important role in the Annual Review process, working with families, schools, colleges and professionals to ensure that plans remain effective and continue to meet the changing needs and aspirations of children and young people.

About You

We are looking for someone who is passionate about making a difference to the lives of children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Whether you already have experience working within SEND or are looking to further develop your career in this rewarding field, you will share our commitment to achieving the best possible outcomes for children, young people and their families.

You will be a highly organised and motivated individual who thrives in a busy environment and takes pride in delivering high‑quality work. With excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills, you will be able to manage competing priorities, work to statutory timescales and maintain a child‑centred approach in everything you do.

We are looking for someone who is confident communicating with a wide range of people and can build positive, professional relationships quickly. You will be able to explain complex information clearly and sensitively, both verbally and in writing, helping families and professionals navigate the SEND process with confidence. Strong ICT skills and a willingness to learn and adapt are essential.
