Job description

For every journey, let’s take first steps together.

At First Steps Together, we believe every child and young person deserves to feel safe, listened to, supported and able to succeed.

We are a growing group of specialist independent schools supporting children and young people with SEND, SEMH and complex presentations. We create calm, consistent and inclusive environments where strong relationships, high expectations and effective safeguarding help pupils overcome barriers and engage successfully in education.

As our Education provision grows, we are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic SEND Intervention Assistant to deliver targeted, personalised interventions that support pupils to overcome barriers to learning, develop essential skills and achieve meaningful progress.

What you’ll be doing

As a SEND Intervention Assistant, you’ll deliver structured one-to-one and small-group interventions, supporting pupils to develop their academic, communication, social and emotional skills. You'll deliver personalised programmes, including Block Therapy, AI-supported interventions and bespoke approaches, with appropriate training provided.

You’ll work closely with the Group Interventions Lead, SENCO, teachers and other professionals to ensure interventions reflect individual pupil needs, learning targets and Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) outcomes.

Alongside delivering interventions, you’ll build positive, trusting relationships with pupils, supporting emotional regulation, confidence, independence and readiness for learning. You’ll adapt activities and resources to meet individual communication, developmental and sensory needs, helping pupils transfer new skills into classroom learning and everyday school life.

You’ll also monitor pupil engagement, record progress and evaluate the impact of interventions, providing accurate feedback to colleagues and contributing to the ongoing review and development of individual support programmes.

Bring your difference

We’re looking for someone with experience of supporting children and young people with SEND or additional needs, who understands the importance of inclusive practice, personalised learning and positive relationships.

You’ll be confident delivering structured one-to-one and small-group activities, adapting your approach to meet individual needs and supporting pupils who may experience barriers to learning, communication or emotional regulation.

You’ll have strong communication, organisation and record-keeping skills, alongside an understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality and professional boundaries. You’ll be comfortable working collaboratively with teachers and other professionals to achieve positive outcomes for pupils.

You’ll bring patience, empathy, resilience and a calm, solution-focused approach, alongside a willingness to learn new intervention techniques and develop your specialist SEND knowledge.

Experience delivering targeted interventions or a relevant Level 3 qualification in education, SEND or childcare would be an advantage.

Why First Steps Together?

You’ll join a supportive and growing specialist education group in a rewarding school-based, term-time role where you’ll make a meaningful difference to pupils’ learning, confidence and independence.

We’ll provide comprehensive induction and ongoing support, alongside training and development in SEND, safeguarding, inclusive practice and specialist intervention approaches, including Block Therapy and AI-supported interventions.

You’ll work alongside experienced colleagues within our SEND and Inclusion Team, with opportunities for continued professional development and career progression.

Bring your difference. Take your next step with First Steps Together.
