Job Description

Five Education is seeking a confident and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) / Cover Supervisor to work in specialist and mainstream provisions supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in a challenging yet rewarding environment and is looking to take on a varied role combining classroom cover, intervention work, and 1:1 support.

You will be supporting pupils with complex needs including SEMH, Autism, ADHD, Speech & Language Difficulties, and other learning challenges. Your responsibilities include delivering pre-set lessons, managing behaviour in the absence of the class teacher, and supporting staff to ensure student engagement and progress.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver pre-planned lessons and manage classroom activities as a Cover Supervisor.
• Support students with SEND on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
• Lead interventions focusing on literacy, numeracy, and emotional regulation.
• Work closely with teaching and support staff to ensure consistent support and communication.
• Foster a safe, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment.
• Support positive behaviour strategies and maintain high conduct expectations.

Essential Criteria

• HLTA qualification or significant school-based experience in a similar role.
• Experience working with children or young people with SEND, particularly SEMH and Autism.
• Confidence in leading a class and managing behaviour effectively.
• Adaptable, calm under pressure, and resilient.
• Right to work in the UK.
• Valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
