Responsabilidades

• Provide personalised one-to-one English tuition tailored to the learner’s individual needs and abilities.
• Support learning across the secondary English curriculum, including English Language and English Literature where appropriate.
• Develop reading comprehension, writing, spelling, punctuation, grammar and vocabulary skills.
• Support the learner to analyse texts, develop ideas and express themselves clearly in writing.
• Identify gaps in English knowledge and provide targeted support.
• Break down complex tasks and concepts into clear, manageable steps.
• Adapt teaching methods, resources and lesson pace to suit individual learning styles.
• Support GCSE English preparation, revision and exam technique where appropriate.
• Use engaging texts, practical activities and the learner’s interests to encourage participation.
• Support learners who may have experienced barriers to mainstream education.
• Help the learner develop confidence, resilience, independence and positive attitudes towards English.
• Support learners who may experience SEMH needs, anxiety, disengagement or challenging behaviour.
• Use positive behaviour strategies and appropriate de-escalation approaches where required.
• Create a calm, structured and supportive learning environment.
• Monitor progress and provide appropriate feedback to parents/carers and other professionals involved in the learner’s education.
• Build a positive and trusting relationship with the learner.

Quantum Scholars are looking for a patient, supportive and experienced SEND English Tutor to provide personalised one-to-one tuition to a secondary-aged young person in Minehead.

The successful tutor will have strong English subject knowledge and experience supporting secondary-aged learners with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and/or social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. You will be confident adapting your teaching style, pace and resources to meet individual learning needs, helping the learner develop their literacy skills, build confidence and make progress at a suitable pace.

Experience supporting young people with anxiety, school avoidance, disengagement or challenging behaviour would be highly desirable. The tutor should be able to make English accessible and engaging, breaking down tasks into manageable steps and creating a calm, supportive environment where the learner feels comfortable developing their skills.

This is an in-person tutoring role and is not online work.
