Job summary

Quantum Scholars is seeking a patient, experienced SEND English Tutor to provide one-to-one English tuition for a young person in Leominster. The role is in-person, with duties tailored to individual SEND needs and GCSE preparation where appropriate.

You will build a calm, supportive learning environment, adapt teaching methods, and collaborate with parents and professionals to promote progress and confidence in reading and writing.

Qualifications

• Strong English subject knowledge at secondary level.
• Experience teaching or tutoring English.
• Experience working with children or young people with SEND.
• Ability to adapt teaching approaches to meet SEND needs.
• Experience providing one-to-one support is desirable.
• Enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.
• The right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

• Providing personalised one-to-one English tuition to a secondary-aged learner.
• Supporting a young person with SEND and/or additional learning needs.
• Adapting English lessons, resources and teaching approaches to suit individual needs.
• Supporting reading, writing, comprehension, spelling, grammar and vocabulary.
• Identifying gaps in knowledge and areas requiring additional support.
• Breaking learning into manageable and accessible steps.
• Supporting the secondary English curriculum and GCSE preparation where appropriate.
• Developing confidence in reading and written communication.
• Supporting a learner who may experience anxiety, school avoidance or disengagement.
• Creating a calm, structured and positive learning environment.
• Using the learner's interests and strengths to encourage engagement.
• Developing confidence, independence and resilience.
• Monitoring progress and providing appropriate feedback.
• Building a positive and trusting relationship with the learner.
• Working collaboratively with parents/carers and other professionals involved in the young person's support.
• Maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.
• Following safeguarding procedures and promoting the welfare of the young person.

Quantum Scholars are looking for a patient, supportive and experienced SEND English Tutor to provide personalised one-to-one English tuition to a young person in Leominster.

The successful tutor will have experience supporting learners with SEND and be confident adapting their teaching style, pace and resources to meet individual needs. You will be able to build a positive relationship with the learner and create a calm, supportive environment where they feel comfortable engaging with education.

Experience supporting young people who have barriers to mainstream education, including anxiety, school avoidance, disengagement or SEMH needs, would be highly desirable.

This is an in-person tutoring role and is not online work.
