Job summary

Quantum Scholars is seeking a patient, experienced SEND Computer Science Tutor to provide personalised one-to-one tuition in Wokingham. The role focuses on secondary CS content, including GCSE where relevant, with a calm, supportive learning environment.

You will adapt teaching pace and resources to meet individual needs, supporting learners who may have anxiety or disengagement and working with parents and professionals as required.

Qualifications

• Strong Computer Science knowledge at secondary level.
• Experience teaching or tutoring Computer Science.
• Experience supporting learners with SEND and/or SEMH needs.
• Ability to adapt teaching approaches to meet individual learning needs.
• Enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references.

Responsibilities

• Provide personalised one-to-one Computer Science tuition to a secondary-aged learner.
• Support the learner across the Secondary Computer Science curriculum, including GCSE where appropriate.
• Cover topics such as programming, algorithms, computational thinking, data representation, computer systems and networks, depending on the learner's needs and the tutor's subject specialism.
• Identify gaps in Computer Science knowledge and providing targeted support.
• Breaking down complex computing concepts into manageable and accessible steps.
• Adapting teaching methods, resources and lesson pace to suit individual learning needs.
• Supporting the development of logical thinking, problem-solving and computational skills.
• Developing confidence in programming, coding fundamentals and debugging where appropriate.
• Supporting the understanding of algorithms, flowcharts, pseudocode and programming languages relevant to the learner's course.
• Supporting GCSE revision, exam preparation and exam technique where appropriate.
• Supporting practical computing activities and coding exercises where suitable.
• Creating a calm, structured and supportive learning environment.
• Supporting learners who may have experienced barriers to mainstream education.
• Helping the learner develop confidence, resilience and independence.
• Encouraging engagement and positive attitudes towards Computer Science and learning.
• Using the learner's interests and strengths to make sessions engaging and accessible.
• Supporting learners who may experience SEMH needs, anxiety or challenging behaviour.
• Using positive behaviour strategies and appropriate de-escalation approaches where required.
• Monitoring progress and providing appropriate feedback.
• Building a positive and trusting relationship with the learner.
• Working collaboratively with parents/carers and other professionals involved in the learner's education.
• Maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.
• Following safeguarding procedures and promoting the welfare of the young person.
