Job summary

Mencap is recruiting for a Tutor/HLTA in Birmingham to support learners with learning disabilities and/or autism. You will deliver functional skills in English and Maths and help learners gain paid employment through Supported Internships.

The role includes a full-time 37.5 hours per week, planning time, and flexible leave. Training and development opportunities are available to progress to Level 5 qualification post-probation.

Qualifications

• Recognised teaching qualification preferred (PGCE/CertEd/DTLLS) or Level 3 with willingness to undertake Level 5 post-probation.
• GCSE English & Maths (4/C or above).
• Experience supporting learners with learning disabilities, difficulties and/or autism.
• Experience delivering functional skills in English and Maths up to Level 2.
• Proven ability to meet targets and KPIs.
• Strong classroom and behaviour management skills.

Responsibilities

• Create dynamic and engaging lessons integrating English and Maths with real-world employability.
• Develop essential life skills for independent navigation of communities.
• Design innovative, engaging lessons that spark curiosity and joy in learning.
• Collaborate with colleagues to support learners and help them secure paid employment.
• Deliver accredited functional skills in English and Maths for future success.
• Enjoy a full planning day each week for planning and admin tasks.
