Job summary

North East Surrey College of Technology (NESCOT) in Epsom seeks a hands-on practitioner to support construction and horticulture learning. You will assist staff, lead practical sessions, and help SEND learners with entry level horticulture, groundwork and construction activities.

You will organise materials, run workshops with lecturers, maintain facilities, and support events such as open evenings and tutor evenings. This role is full-time (37 hours) with term-time schedule and on-site duties.

Qualifications

• Practical experience in construction or horticulture with tools and equipment.
• Ability to support learning activities, preferably with Foundation Level students but also with new staff in the workplace.
• Capable of planning and leading practical sessions independently.

• Assist staff in preparing materials for the learning environment and maintain department facilities.
• Work with lecturers, delivering workshops and demonstrations for students; run assigned practical sessions supporting SEND learners.

What We Are Looking For

• Practical construction/horticulture experience with tools and equipment
• Experience supporting learning activities, preferably with Foundation Level students but also with new staff in the workplace
• Ability to plan and lead practical sessions independently
• Level 2 qualification in Construction/Horticulture OR equivalent practical experience
• Patient and supportive approach with learners of varying abilities
• Highly organised, have initiative, be adaptable and flexible in your approach to work.
• You should have a passion for working with people of all ages, especially young adults and school leavers with SEND and additional learning needs.

Duties/responsibilities

• Assist staff in preparing materials for the learning environment, maintaining and organising the facilities within the department including construction workshops, outdoor learning space and polytunnel.
• Work alongside lecturers, providing workshops and demonstrations for the students. You will have assigned practical (groundwork) sessions with groups of learners where you will support our SEND learners with practice activity including entry level horticulture, groundwork and construction
• Support open evenings and meet the tutor evenings
• Maintain stock levels and placing orders for materials
