Job summary

Academics is recruiting on behalf of an SEN Primary School in Southampton for full-time SEN Teaching Assistants to start in September.

You will support children aged 4–11 with complex learning needs, many with EHCPs, in a varied, rewarding classroom environment. The role requires empathy, resilience and the ability to adapt to changing behaviours, with long-term commitment encouraged.

Qualifications

  • Experience of supporting children with special educational needs or willingness to learn
  • Empathetic and nurturing approach
  • Ability to manage varying levels of challenging behaviour
  • Ability to think on your feet and adapt to situations

Responsibilities

  • Support children with SEN in a primary setting and help implement individual education plans
  • Provide empathetic, patient assistance to pupils with a range of needs
  • Assist with classroom activities and behaviour management as required

Job description

SEN Teaching Assistants - September Start

Academics are recruiting on behalf of an SEN Primary School that caters for children aged 4 - 11 years with complex learning difficulties.

All children at the school have a severe level of learning difficulties and many have associated disabilities such as autism, speech and language disorders and challenging behaviour. Every child within the School has an Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP).

They are looking to take on full‑time Teaching Assistants to start in September, so please only apply if you are looking for a long term or permanent position. The school is based in Southampton, so you will need to be based here or be willing to travel into Southampton.

To be considered for this role you should:

  • Have experience of supporting children with special educational needs or be willing to learn.
  • Be empathetic and nurturing.
  • Be able to manage varying levels of challenging behaviour.
  • Have the ability to think on your feet and adapt to situations.

This could be a challenging environment to work in, but also very rewarding. This role is suited to someone who enjoys the variation of working in this type of environment, with a passion and love for working with and supporting children with special educational needs.
