Job summary

St Joseph’s Specialist Trust Cranleigh is seeking a Teaching Assistant to support students aged 5–19 with complex needs in a specialist education setting. You will help access therapy-based education, enhance life skills, and promote independence in a caring, structured environment.

Full training is provided, including Team Teach and a Teaching Assistant apprenticeship funded by the Trust. The role offers a supportive team and opportunities for progression within the education pathway.

Qualifications

• Empathy, compassion and resilience are valued traits for this role.
• Excellent communication with children, families and professionals is essential.
• Literacy and numeracy skills to support student learning and complete records are required.

Responsibilities

• Manage small classes (8–13) grouped by ability and social needs.
• Support core subjects and daily living skills.
• Assist students in communication using Makaton, signs, symbols or aids.
• Guide students to manage anxiety, emotions and behaviour.
• Work with a skilled team, with comprehensive training and mentoring.
• Occasionally provide personal care with full training provided.
