Job summary

Veritas Education in West Yorkshire is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils across mainstream and specialist settings. You will provide 1:1 and small‑group support, adapt activities to meet individual needs and help pupils access learning.

You will work closely with teachers, SENCOs and families, monitor progress and support behaviour and wellbeing. A GCSE in English and Maths and an Enhanced DBS are required; specialist training such as Team Teach or safeguarding

Qualifications

• Experience with children or vulnerable individuals, paid or voluntary.
• Patient, empathetic and resilient with calm approach to challenging behaviour.
• Ability to build positive relationships and understand individual pupil needs.
• GCSEs in English and Maths; DBS check required; willingness to undertake safeguarding training.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 and small-group support in the classroom.

• Support the implementation of EHCPs and Individual Behaviour Plans.
• Promote positive behaviour and use de-escalation techniques when required.

• Assist with personal care or physical needs where required.
• Monitor and record pupil progress, behaviour and wellbeing.
• Log communications with parents and carers onto data platforms.
• Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, parents/carers and external professionals.
• Update daily behaviour and progress trackers.
• Log communications with parents and carers onto appropriate data platforms.

The Role: Enthusiastic and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistants support pupils across mainstream and specialist schools throughout West Yorkshire. • Provide emotional, social and pastoral support.
• Assist with personal care or physical needs where required and appropriate.
• Monitor and record pupil progress, behaviour and well-being.
• Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, parents/carers and external professionals.
• Update daily behaviour and progress trackers.
• Log communications with parents and carers onto appropriate data platforms.

Requirements:

• Experienced working with children, young people, vulnerable individuals or within care/support settings - paid or voluntary experience is welcomed.
• Able to be patient, empathetic and resilient. Calm and confident when managing challenging behaviour.
• Able to build positive relationships and understand individual pupil needs and triggers.
• Flexible and willing to adapt to changing needs and circumstances.
• A strong communicator and effective team player.
• Qualified to at least GCSE/equivalent in English and Maths.
• Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is mandatory. (We can help advise on this)
• Specialist training/ qualifications (Team Teach, Safeguarding Certificates etc)
