Job summary

Horizon Care and Education is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant for Leigh Park SEN School in Leigh, Leigh Park, Wigan. The new school will provide high-quality education for children aged 5-19 with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and will open in January.

You will assist students in their educational and social development, both inside and outside the classroom, using adaptable approaches and technology where appropriate.

Qualifications

• Experience of working with children with behavioural support needs.
• GCSE English and Maths at grade C or higher (or equivalent).
• Hold or be willing to work towards a recognised teaching assistant qualification.

Responsibilities

• Assist students in their educational and social development.
• Provide in-class and extra-curricular learning support.
• Set up activities and adapt environments to pupils' needs.
• Support teachers and engage with students 1:1 where needed.

Leigh Park School will be a brand-new, independent specialist day school providing high-quality education for boys and girls. Based in Leigh, Wigan, the school will meet the diverse needs of pupils aged 5-19 with Special Educational Needs (SEN).

What you’ll get to do:

• Assisting students in their educational and social development.
• Provide support inside and outside of the classroom, so they can fully engage in a wide range of activities.
• Help to set up activities for students, using technology or adjusting the environment to suit their needs.
• Support teachers, engaging with students, providing learning support, and reacting to situations in the classroom in a positive, non-disruptive manner.
• Working 1:1 with some students, to give them the time and support they need to learn.

What we’re looking for from you:

• Experience of working with children who have behavioural support needs with a good knowledge of behavioural management techniques and strategies
• Grade C or above GCSE in English and Math, or L1/2 equivalent functional skills qualification
• Hold or be willing to work towards a recognised teaching assistant qualification
