Teaching Personnel’s partner school, in Okehampton, is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join their supportive team. This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual who is driven to work with students who have complex needs and help them achieve their full potential in a nurturing, inclusive environment.

  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Contract Type: Full-Time, Temporary to Permanent
  • Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm

About our Partner School:

Our partner in Okehampton is an outstanding provider of education for students aged 5-19 with Special Educational Needs, including those with Autism, learning disabilities, communication challenges, and emotional/behavioural difficulties. The school provides a holistic, child-centred approach to learning, offering a safe and welcoming environment where students can develop academically, socially, and emotionally. The school offers a bespoke curriculum, designed to meet the individual needs of each student, with a strong focus on building essential life skills, independence, and confidence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support students in the classroom by assisting with learning activities and promoting engagement.
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support tailored to each student's needs.
  • Assist with the implementation of individualised learning plans (ILPs) and ensure they are adhered to.
  • Help students develop key life skills, including communication, independence, and emotional regulation.
  • Manage classroom behaviour by using positive reinforcement techniques and supporting students in developing self-regulation skills.
  • Provide pastoral care and emotional support to students, ensuring their well-being.
  • Collaborate with the teaching staff and other professionals to ensure students’ needs are met.
  • Assist in the monitoring and tracking of student progress, offering feedback and supporting assessments.

What We’re Looking For:

  • A passion for supporting students with SEN, particularly those with Autism, learning disabilities, and behavioural challenges.
  • Experience working with children in an education or care setting (preferred but not essential).
  • Strong communication skills, patience, and the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
  • Adaptability to work with a diverse range of students, each with individual needs and learning styles.
  • A proactive, team-oriented approach to working with colleagues, teachers, and specialists.
  • Resilience and the ability to remain calm and positive in challenging situations.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and ensuring a safe, inclusive environment for all students.
