Job summary

Horizon Care Ltd. is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant for Grove Road School in Sutton. Join a team committed to supporting pupils with SEN aged 11–19, including SEMH and Autism, in an independent specialist setting.

The role involves 1:1 support, classroom assistance, and adaptive learning activities. A GCSE in English/Maths and a teaching assistant qualification (or willingness to work towards) are required.

Qualifications

• Experience of working with children who have behavioural support needs and strategies.
• GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above or equivalent.
• Willingness to work towards a recognised teaching assistant qualification.
• Supportive management and senior leaders.

Responsibilities

• Assist students in their educational and social development.
• Provide support inside and outside of the classroom to engage in activities.
• Help set up activities using technology or environment adjustments.
• Support teachers and engage with students in a positive, non-disruptive manner.
• Work 1:1 with some students to give focused time and support.

What you’ll get to do:

• Assisting students in their educational and social development.
• Provide support inside and outside of the classroom, so they can fully engage in a wide range of activities.
• Help to set up activities for students, using technology or adjusting the environment to suit their needs.
• Support teachers, engaging with students, providing learning support, and reacting to situations in the classroom in a positive, non-disruptive manner.
• Working 1:1 with some students, to give them the time and support they need to learn.

What we’re looking for from you:

• Experience of working with children who have behavioural support needs with a good knowledge of behavioural management techniques and strategies
• Grade C or above GCSE in English and Math, or L1/2 equivalent functional skills qualification
• Hold or be willing to work towards a recognised teaching assistant qualification
• Supportive management and senior leaders.
