Job summary

Academics is recruiting experienced SEN Teaching Assistants to support pupils with complex needs across East Sussex. The role involves providing highly individualised support to pupils with PMLD, SLD, autism and other needs in specialist environments.

You may work 1:1, in small groups or within a specialist classroom team, helping pupils access learning and develop communication and life skills. Start is immediate with ongoing opportunities, offering competitive daily rates.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children or young people with complex SEN.
  • Patient, compassionate and reliable.
  • Able to support pupils with personal care where required.
  • Capacity to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
  • Experience in care, healthcare, residential settings considered.

Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with PMLD, SLD, autism, and complex needs.
  • 1:1 or small group support within specialist classroom settings.
  • Help pupils access learning and develop communication, independence and life skills.
  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to plan and deliver learner support.

Location: East Sussex


Salary: £93-£110 per day, depending on experience


Contract: Full-time / Part-time / Supply

Are you an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant looking for a role where you can make a genuine difference to pupils with complex needs?


Academics is working with a number of specialist schools across East Sussex supporting children and young people with PMLD, SLD, complex physical needs, communication difficulties and additional medical needs.


We are looking for caring, patient and resilient Teaching Assistants who are confident providing highly individualised support and are comfortable working within a specialist environment.


The role

Depending on the setting, you could be supporting pupils with:



  • Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD)

  • Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD)

  • Autism and communication difficulties

  • Complex physical needs

  • Sensory processing needs

  • Personal care requirements

  • EHCP-led individual support

  • Mobility and physical support

  • Emotional and behavioural needs


You may work on a 1:1 basis, within a small group or as part of a specialist classroom team, helping pupils access learning and develop their communication, independence and life skills.


We're looking for someone who:


  • Has previous experience working with children or young people with complex SEN

  • Is patient, compassionate and reliable

  • Is comfortable supporting pupils with personal care where required

  • Can build positive relationships with pupils and staff

  • Understands that progress can look different for every child

  • Is happy working as part of a multidisciplinary team

  • Has a calm and nurturing approach

  • Previous school experience is desirable but not essential where you have relevant experience in care, support work, healthcare, residential settings or similar environments.
