Job summary

A dedicated teaching supply agency is recruiting SEN Teaching Assistants for an autism-specific school in Stoke-on-Trent. You will provide 1:1 support to pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and help foster their communication and emotional skills. Ideal candidates must have experience working with children with additional needs and possess strong communication skills. This is a long-term role with flexible working hours and excellent benefits, including access to CPD courses and a supportive team environment.

Job description

Milk Education is recruiting caring and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistants to join a fantastic autism-specific school in Stoke (ST2), working on a long-term basis, starting immediately.

This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals who are passionate about supporting children and young people with autism and additional learning needs, helping them thrive in a structured, nurturing, and inclusive environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).
  • Support pupils with communication, social interaction, and emotional regulation throughout the school day.
  • Assist teachers in adapting lessons and activities to meet individual learning needs and EHCP targets.
  • Promote positive behaviour strategies and routine, helping pupils feel safe, supported, and engaged in their learning.
  • Encourage independence, confidence, and personal development in line with each pupil’s abilities.
Essential Qualifications & Skills:
  • Experience working with children or young people with autism or additional needs.
  • A patient, caring, and resilient approach when supporting pupils with complex needs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team.
  • A proactive attitude and genuine passion for supporting pupils with SEN.
