Job summary

Supply Desk is recruiting a SEN Teaching Assistant for a PMLD setting in Hemel Hempstead. The role can be full or part time, starting September 2026, supporting pupils aged 2-19 with severe, profound and multiple learning difficulties.

You will work with a teacher in a stimulating environment, provide personal care, manage challenging behaviour, assist with activities, record progress, and may work one-to-one with some students. DBS check required.

Qualifications

  • Experience as an SEN Teaching Assistant is preferred.
  • Knowledge of SEN and PMLD.
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviour.
  • Willing to commit to fixed days and commute to Hemel Hempstead area.
  • Clear and valid DBS on the update service or willingness to obtain one.
  • Able to assist pupils/students with personal care.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting students with complex needs including Autism, Down syndrome and cerebral palsy.
  • Providing students with personal care assistance.
  • Managing challenging behaviour.
  • Collaborating with the teacher and assisting with creating and delivering activities.
  • Recording students progress and feeding back to the teacher.
  • Will work one to one with some students.

The School:

Supply desk is pleased to be working with a special needs school in the Hemel Hempstead area that prides itself on providing a nurturing and inclusive environment for children with SEND allowing for them to succeed to the best of their ability no matter what challenges they may face. The pupils and students have severe, profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD) and supports children from the ages of 2-19. The school has excellent facilities and access to a range of resources to provide a rich and stimulating environment for the children.

This is a chance to diversify your own career and move into an incredibly rewarding role within a SEN setting. Applicants with previous experience as an SEND Teaching Assistant (main stream or special needs schools) are also welcomed. You will be responsible for working with children and supporting their complex needs as part of a team of TA s alongside a teacher in a rich and stimulating environment in this SEN school for children with profound and multiple learning difficulties and disabilities (PMLD).

The role will require the following responsibilities;

The ideal candidate will have /be;

  • Previous experience with SEN
  • Good knowledge of SEN and passion to develop
  • Able to manage challenging behaviour
  • Able to commit to working fixed days full or part time and to commute to the Hemel Hempstead area
  • Has a clear and valid DBS on the update service or willing to obtain one
  • Able to assist pupils/ students with personal care
