Job summary

Supply Desk is recruiting a SEN Teaching Assistant for a PMLD setting in Hemel Hempstead. The role supports students aged 2–19 with severe, profound and multiple learning difficulties and requires commitment to fixed days with local commuting.

You will work alongside a teacher in a nurturing environment, providing personal care and helping deliver engaging activities while recording progress and feedback.

Qualifications

• Experience in SEN settings, especially PMLD, is preferred.
• Commitment to fixed days and commuting to Hemel Hempstead.
• DBS check up-to-date or willing to obtain one.
• Ability to assist pupils with personal care.
• Willingness to develop knowledge in SEND.

Responsibilities

• Support students with complex needs including Autism, Down syndrome and cerebral palsy.
• Provide students with personal care assistance.
• Assist in managing challenging behaviour.
• Collaborate with the teacher to create and deliver activities.
• Record students’ progress and feed back to the teacher.
• Provide one-to-one support for some students.

The School:

Supply desk is pleased to be working with a special needs school in the Hemel Hempstead area that prides itself on providing a nurturing and inclusive environment for children with SEND allowing for them to succeed to the best of their ability no matter what challenges they may face. The pupils and students have severe, profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD) and supports children from the ages of 2-19. The school has excellent facilities and access to a range of resources to provide a rich and stimulating environment for the children.

Applicants with previous experience as an SEND Teaching Assistant (main stream or special needs schools) are also welcomed. You will be responsible for working with children and supporting their complex needs as part of a team of TA’s alongside a teacher in a rich and stimulating environment in this SEN school for children with profound and multiple learning difficulties and disabilities (PMLD).

The role will require the following responsibilities;

• Supporting students with complex needs including Autism, down syndrome and cerebral palsy
• Providing students with personal care assistance
• Managing challenging behaviour
• Collaborating with the teacher and assisting with creating and delivering activities
• Recording students’ progress and feeding back to the teacher
• Will work one to one with some students

The ideal candidate will have /be;

• Previous experience with SEN
• Good knowledge of SEN and passion to develop
• Able to manage challenging behaviour
• Able to commit to working fixed days - full or part time and to commute to the Hemel Hempstead area
• Has a clear and valid DBS on the update service or willing to obtain one
• Able to assist pupils/ students with personal care
