A well-established special school in East London is seeking an experienced teacher for maternity cover at their primary site starting September 2025. The students are secondary & post-16 with autism and communication needs. The role involves teaching life and independence skills, alongside subject-specific curriculum, with access to therapy and sensory rooms, and a large outdoor space to promote movement.

Details:

• Start: September 2025 until January 2026
• Location: Plaistow, East London
• Focus: Secondary & Post-16, Autism
• Payment: PAYE only

This role is part of a trust that offers development and training opportunities, emphasizing staff retention and supporting talent. It’s ideal for teachers with experience in SEN, including MS teachers familiar with SEN contexts.

Requirements:

• QTS or equivalent
• Special Education Degree (desirable)
• Experience in a special school setting or with SEN children in a professional context
• Experience with children with SLD, ASC, SPLD
• Ability to teach individuals or small groups
• Lesson planning and resource development
• Assessment and marking
• Adapting teaching methods to individual needs
• Collaboration with other professionals (social workers, therapists, psychologists)
• Strong behaviour management skills
