  • Create a positive, safe, and nurturing classroom environment that promotes engagement, self-esteem, and positive behaviour.

  • Collaborate closely with Teaching Assistants, other teaching staff, parents, and external specialists (e.g., therapists, educational psychologists) to ensure holistic student support.

  • Manage classroom dynamics effectively, utilizing positive behaviour management techniques.

  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the school's SEN provision and curriculum.

  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate effectively with parents/carers.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience teaching students with Special Educational Needs at the secondary level.

  • A strong understanding of a variety of SEN (e.g., Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Moderate/Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, communication difficulties).

  • Excellent classroom management skills and the ability to inspire and motivate students.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building strong rapport with students, staff, and parents.

  • Patience, resilience, and a creative approach to overcoming learning barriers.

  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Desirable:

  • Additional qualifications or training in Special Educational Needs (e.g., NASENCo, or a postgraduate certificate/diploma in SEN).

  • Experience with specific teaching methodologies or interventions for SEN (e.g., PECS, Makaton, Team Teach).

Benefits:

  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience and the school's pay scale (e.g., Main Pay Range to Upper Pay Scale, plus SEN allowance).

  • A profound opportunity to make a tangible and lasting difference in young people's lives.
