TeacherActive is currently seeking a dedicated and experienced SEN Teacher to join a specialist SEND school in the Sutton area, working specifically with Post-16 students up to 19 years old.
The school supports autistic learners with multiple and complex barriers to learning. Students may also have severe learning difficulties, sensory processing needs, physical disabilities and complex medical requirements.
The successful SEN Teacher will work primarily with Post-16 learners, helping them develop their communication, independence, life skills, social interaction and emotional wellbeing as they prepare for adulthood.
As an SEN Teacher, you will plan and deliver highly differentiated learning tailored to students with PMLD, SLD, autism, sensory processing needs and complex medical requirements. You will work alongside an experienced multidisciplinary team including Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, physiotherapists, support assistants and healthcare professionals.
QTS, QTLS or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification
Previous teaching experience within a SEND/special school - essential
Experience working with Post-16 SEND students - essential
Confidence and experience teaching young people up to 19 years old - essential
Experience supporting learners with Autism, PMLD, SLD and complex SEND
Knowledge of sensory curriculum approaches and intensive interaction
Experience using Makaton, AAC, communication switches or other alternative communication methods
Experience supporting students with physical disabilities and complex medical needs
Knowledge and experience of working towards individual EHCP outcomes
A calm, patient, compassionate and adaptable approach
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
The ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
The right to work in the UK
The ability and willingness to obtain an Enhanced Child and Adult Workforce DBS and register it on the DBS Update Service - essential
Plan and deliver engaging, highly differentiated lessons for Post-16 SEND students
Support learners with PMLD, SLD, autism and complex learning needs
Develop communication, independence and functional life skills
Prepare Post-16 learners for greater independence and adulthood
Support sensory regulation, social interaction and emotional wellbeing
