Secondary SEN Teacher - Peterborough (Long-Term Until Christmas)

Are you a compassionate, resilient Secondary SEN Teacher looking for a rewarding long-term placement in a supportive specialist school? We are seeking a dedicated special education teacher to join a vibrant SEN provision in Peterborough for a long-term position starting immediately through to the Christmas break.

This full-time, long-term opportunity involves teaching across a mixed secondary age group (Key Stages 3 & 4), catering to pupils with complex learning needs, Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), and severe learning difficulties. This role requires full commitment to lesson planning and curriculum adaptation, as well as providing essential personal care support to ensure students’ dignity, comfort, and well-being.

Whether you are an experienced SEN specialist or a mainstream secondary teacher with a strong background in differentiated learning and complex needs, this role offers the chance to make a profound difference to young people throughout the autumn term.

Role Overview:

• Position: Secondary SEN Teacher (Mixed Secondary Age Range)

• Location: Peterborough

• Duration: Full-time, long-term placement through until Christmas

• Requirements: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS preferred), full planning responsibilities, and willingness to support personal care

Key Responsibilities:

• Planning & Adaptation: Plan, prepare, and deliver highly adapted, sensory-aware schemes of work tailored to a mixed secondary age group with diverse cognitive and physical capabilities.

• Personal Care Support: Assist with personal care duties (including hygiene, changing, feeding, and mobility support) with warmth, dignity, and respect for each student’s independence.

• Classroom Management: Maintain a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment utilising positive behaviour support and effective de-escalation techniques.

• Communication Support: Implement alternative communication strategies (such as PECS, Makaton, and visual timetables) to support non-verbal or minimally verbal pupils.

• Team Leadership: Direct and collaborate effectively with a team of dedicated classroom Teaching Assistants to deliver safe, tailored 1:1 and small-group support.

• Assessment & Tracking: Assess pupil engagement, track progress against individual Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets, and maintain clear records for end-of-term reviews.

What We Look For:

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or QTLS (Unqualified Teachers/Instructors with extensive complex SEN experience are also welcome to apply).

• Proven experience teaching secondary-aged pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

• Full commitment to taking on planning, assessment, and resource preparation responsibilities for the term.

• Confidence and willingness to carry out personal care duties as part of the daily routine.

• Physical moving and handling knowledge or Team-Teach training is highly desirable.

• A valid Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or willingness to complete one).
