Job summary

Academics is seeking dedicated SEN support assistants to help primary pupils across Newcastle-under-Lyme and surrounding areas on a full-time supply basis. You will bring patience, compassion, and a flexible approach to adapt to different classrooms and needs.

You will build trusting relationships, provide one-to-one and small-group support, and help children access learning while supporting emotional wellbeing and inclusion.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children in school, nursery, care or similar setting.
• Patient, calm and compassionate approach when children face difficulties.
• Ability to adapt communication and teaching to meet diverse needs.
• Strong communication skills with teachers and other professionals.
• Proactive, flexible and willing to work in varied environments.
• Genuine passion for helping children reach their potential.

Responsibilities

• Build meaningful connections with pupils to help them feel safe and ready to learn.
• Provide one-to-one and small-group support for children with additional learning needs.
• Adapt activities and use visual resources to make learning accessible.
• Support emotional wellbeing and help children regulate emotions and navigate social situations.
• Recognise progress and encourage independence in pupils.
• Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs and staff to create inclusive classrooms.
• Work across local primary schools and adapt to different routines and environments.
