Qualifications

Job description

Burnham on Crouch Primary School is seeking to appoint an experienced SEND Learning Support Assistant. Working as part of a team, you will need to be calm, kind, flexible and dedicated. We are looking for someone who is prepared to undertake a range of training to support the needs of the children you will be working with.

This role is for 28.3 hours per week, Monday to Friday, and will be a "named child" contract, although part-time hours may be considered for the right candidate. A genuine love of working with children is essential.

The successful candidate will be required to support pupils with medical and toileting needs.

The successful applicant will:

  • Have experience in supporting pupils with needs such as Learning Difficulties, Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs, and Physical & Medical Needs.
  • Have knowledge and experience of supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • Be enthusiastic, confident, and able to show initiative.
  • Be caring and patient.
  • Be able to work in partnership with SENCO, class teachers, and external agencies.
  • Establish constructive relationships with pupils, acting as a role model, and interact with them according to individual needs.
  • Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils.
  • Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher.
  • Establish constructive relationships with parents/carers.
  • Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety, confidentiality, and data protection, reporting concerns appropriately.
  • Support difference and ensure all pupils have equal access to learning opportunities.
  • Hold at least an A-C pass in GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent).

The successful applicant would be expected to:

  • Assist with personal care.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of One Plans/EHCPs.
  • Monitor and record pupil responses and learning.
  • Supervise pupils during limited periods, including break times.
  • Assist with escorting pupils on educational visits.
  • Physically assist pupils during activities such as swimming where necessary.
  • Use initiative to create a stimulating learning environment.
  • Work in partnership with other teaching assistants.
  • Encourage independence and self-confidence.
  • Support the class teacher in planning differentiated work.
  • Create simple resources to support pupils' work.
  • Attend INSET days and training as identified by the Head teacher.
