Job summary

Step Teachers is seeking a skilled and passionate SEN HLTA to support pupils with special educational needs, starting in September 2025. Job description

We are looking to appoint a skilled and passionate SEN HLTA to support the learning and development of pupils with special educational needs. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone with experience and a deep commitment to inclusive education. Beginning September 2025.

Duties as a SEN HLTA:

  • Support the teaching and learning of pupils with a range of SEND, across classes or in targeted group and 1:1 interventions

  • Plan, deliver and assess structured learning activities under the guidance of the SENDCo and class teachers

  • Assist with the development and implementation of individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour support strategies

  • Promote positive relationships and pupil engagement through consistent and nurturing support

  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, support staff and external agencies

  • Provide cover for class teachers where required, including leading whole-class sessions

Ideal SEN HLTA:

  • Hold HLTA status or be working towards it

  • Have experience supporting pupils with SEND in a school setting

  • Be confident in adapting learning activities to meet individual needs

  • Demonstrate excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills as a SEN HLTA.

  • Be flexible, patient and committed to promoting pupil wellbeing and progress
