Job description

SEN EYFS Teaching Assistant

Do you have the patience, empathy, and commitment to support a young child with additional needs?

Academic Year: September 2025 to July 2026

Salary: £81–£101 per day

Location: Primary school based in Central Wolverhampton

Role: 1:1 SEN support to a child with Down Syndrome

Overview: Meaningful, rewarding role for someone passionate about early years and inclusion

You’ll work 1:1 with a Reception-aged child with Down Syndrome, supporting them throughout the school day. Your focus will be on helping them access learning, build communication skills, and feel safe and supported in class. You’ll follow the child’s EHCP, work closely with the class teacher and SENCO, and adapt activities to meet their needs. You’ll also support with transitions, routines, and positive behaviour.

Candidate requirements:

  1. Experience working with children, ideally in a school or nursery setting
  2. Some understanding of SEN
  3. Calm, consistent, and nurturing demeanor
  4. Genuine interest in early years education
  5. Background in speech and language support, Makaton, or working with children with developmental delays is a plus
  6. Reliable, proactive, and committed for the full academic year
