Job summary

Fresh Start in Education Ltd is seeking a SEN Education Specialist to provide tailored 1:1 or 2:1 educational support to learners with SEND in York and North Yorkshire.

Sessions run during term time, typically 3–5 hours, at home or in specialist settings. You will work flexibly within a compassionate, expert team, focusing on autism, communication needs and learning difficulties.

Competitive pay of £25–£36 per hour, travel subsidy, wellbeing support and ongoing CPD opportunities are offered.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children and young people in SEN settings.
• Background in Primary, Secondary or Post 16 teaching, or specialist SEN environments.
• Experience or interest in autism, communication needs and learning difficulties.
• Minimum of 2 consistent weekdays available.
• Up-to-date safeguarding and child protection knowledge.
• Familiarity with Makaton, PECS or other communication strategies is advantageous.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Providing 1:1 or 2:1 educational support to children and young people in their homes or specialist settings.

Who We’re Looking For

• Qualified teachers, tutors, teaching assistants, SEN specialists, and education professionals with experience supporting children and young people.
• Those with a background in Primary, Secondary and Post 16 teaching, or specialist SEND environments.
• Professionals with experience or interest in working with students with autism, communication needs, and learning difficulties.
• A minimum of 2 consistent weekdays of availability.
• Up-to-date understanding of safeguarding and child protection.

Familiarity with Makaton, PECS, or other communication strategies along with de-escalation and behaviour management training is an advantage.
