Description
Make a Difference. Be the Fresh Start.
  • Do you have experience working with students with SEND or SEMH needs?
  • Are you able to deliver education in creative and engaging ways?
  • Would you like a rewarding role working 1:1 with young people who need your help?
  • Placements available now and into 2026: minimum of 6 hours a week, up to a maximum of 30 hours a week
At Fresh Start in Education, we’re looking for proactive, person-centred people to design and deliver personalised learning sessions that spark curiosity, confidence and a sense of hope for young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) or Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs who are currently out of education. Whether it’s going on a trip to the shops to explore Maths, unlocking their imagination through stories and art, or using gaming to uncover the wonders of Science, you’ll inspire students to rediscover the joy of learning in a way that works for them.

We have placements in the Oxford area from a minimum of 6 hours a week, up to a maximum of 30 hours a week, so if you have the experience, empathy and commitment to transform lives and are looking for a flexible role that allows you to deliver learning in ways that you feel best meet the student’s needs and interests, we would love to hear from you.

The placements:
  • Working with your student on a 1:1 or 2:1 basis in their home or a suitable venue in the Oxford area
  • Planning and delivering 2-5 sessions per week. Each session is between 3-5 hours, during school hours and term-times only.
  • Placements organised and supported by our dedicated teams
  • Bank Staff worker – providing short-term provisions as and when they arise, paid via PAYE

What you need to apply:
  • Minimum of 2 years’ professional experience working with vulnerable children or young people with additional needs (SEN, SEMH needs and other barriers to learning)
  • Experience delivering or supporting English and Maths at Primary, Secondary or Functional Skills levels, along with other subjects if possible
  • Consistent availability to commit to a minimum of 2 sessions per week (a minimum of 2 working days)
  • A commitment to keeping children and young people safe and a practical and up to date knowledge of safeguarding

The benefits:
  • Competitive hourly rate of £25 to £35 per hour
  • Subsidised travel costs and £15 per day for resources
  • Free wellbeing and counselling service, pension option & store discounts
  • Work for a nationally recognised provider of specialist academic, social and emotional support for vulnerable young children and adults
