Job description

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and inclusive school community. The successful candidate will work closely with a named pupil with Special Educational Needs, providing tailored 1:1 support to help them access learning, develop independence, and make progress in a nurturing environment. Beginning ASAP.

Duties as a SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistant:
  1. Provide individualised support to a pupil with an EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) or identified SEN.
  2. Work under the direction of the class teacher and SENCo to deliver targeted interventions and adapted learning activities.
  3. Support the pupil’s social, emotional and behavioural development, promoting positive choices and wellbeing.
  4. Help with transitions, communication strategies and access to classroom routines.
  5. Maintain accurate records of progress and contribute to review meetings as needed.
  6. Promote inclusion and ensure the child is fully integrated into school life where possible.
Ideal SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistant:
  1. Experience working with children with SEN, particularly on a 1:1 basis (desirable but not essential).
  2. Patience, empathy, and a calm, positive approach to supporting children.
  3. Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with staff, parents, and external agencies.
  4. Flexible, resilient, and proactive in meeting the needs of the child as a SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistant.
  5. Relevant qualifications in child development, learning support, or SEN (e.g. Level 2/3 TA or equivalent) are an advantage.
