Job summary

Newtons Primary School in Havering is seeking a Learning Support Assistant to support pupils with special educational needs. The role is mainly 1:1, with some group work, and involves working under the class teacher and SENCO to support learning and development.

The successful candidate will be calm, patient and proactive, with experience in supporting pupils with SEN and a track record of working well in a team. Interviews are planned for the week of 2 November 2026 and the post is permanent.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting pupils with learning difficulties (SEN).
• 1:1 support experience is essential.
• Calm, kind and patient approach when engaging with children.
• Flexible, proactive and able to use initiative as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 support to pupils with a range of special educational needs.
• Support group activities as required by the class teacher.
• Create simple resources to support pupil learning as appropriate.
• Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO, and liaise with external contacts.
