Job summary

Reed in Luton is seeking a Semi Senior / Senior Accountant to join a growing practice, handling a varied client portfolio in both accounts and tax.

The role offers progression, opportunities to take ownership over time, and exposure across client management, with a collaborative team and ACA/ACCA study support available. Office-based, with standard hours and parking on-site.

Qualifications

• 4-6 years' experience within a UK accountancy practice.
• Strong personal and income tax experience.
• Experience preparing company accounts.
• Confident managing client work independently.
• Good understanding of bookkeeping and VAT processes.
• Strong communication and client-facing skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare statutory accounts for a varied portfolio of clients.
• Prepare and submit personal tax returns.
• Manage a portfolio of approximately 50-100 tax returns.
• Work with clients who have rental property portfolios, investment income, and sole traders.
• Exposure to Capital Gains Tax matters.
• Review bookkeeping and VAT work completed by junior team members.
• Support Client Managers with portfolio management and client queries.
• Assist with CIS-related work where required.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships.
• Work independently and manage client deadlines with minimal supervision.

About the Role

An ambitious and growing accountancy practice is looking to appoint a Semi Senior / Senior Accountant to join its close-knit team.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced practice accountant who is looking for greater responsibility, broader client exposure, and genuine long-term progression. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the firm's client portfolio, working closely with senior management across both accounts and tax assignments.

The position offers a balanced mix of accounts and tax work, with the opportunity to take ownership of a significant client portfolio over time.

Key Responsibilities

• Preparation of statutory accounts for a varied portfolio of clients.
• Preparation and submission of personal tax returns.
• Managing a portfolio of approximately 50-100 tax returns.
• Working with clients who have:

Candidate Requirements

Essential

• 4-6 years' experience within a UK accountancy practice.
• Strong personal tax and income tax experience.
• Experience preparing company accounts.
• Confident managing client work independently.
• Good understanding of bookkeeping and VAT processes.
• Strong communication and client-facing skills.

Desirable

• Capital Gains Tax exposure.
• CIS experience.
• Experience reviewing bookkeeping and VAT work.
• Knowledge of Maple Tax Digital software.
• ACCA/ACA qualified, part-qualified, or qualified by experience.
