About the Role:

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA), you will provide tailored support to students who require additional emotional and behavioural guidance. Working closely with teachers, SENCOs and pastoral teams, you will help implement individualised strategies that promote academic progress, emotional resilience and social development.

SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA) Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support for students with SEMH needs.
  • Implement de-escalation techniques and behaviour management strategies to support positive engagement.
  • Work alongside teachers to deliver structured interventions tailored to individual learning plans.
  • Support students in developing self-confidence, coping mechanisms and emotional regulation skills.
  • Encourage a positive, inclusive and structured learning environment.
  • Assist in delivering a differentiated curriculum, ensuring accessibility for all learners.
  • Monitor student progress and well-being, providing feedback to staff and parents when necessary.
  • Uphold safeguarding policies and procedures, prioritising student welfare at all times.

SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA) Job Requirements:

  • Experience as an SEMH Teaching Assistant or within a similar support role for students with SEN and SEMH needs.
  • A relevant qualification in education, child psychology, or a related field (e.g., CACHE Level 2/3, Psychology Degree, Youth Work certification).
  • Strong communication and de-escalation skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships.
  • A resilient, empathetic and adaptable approach to supporting students.
  • An understanding of trauma-informed practices and mental health awareness (training can be provided).
  • Have anupdated CV(covering the last ten years barring any unexplained gaps) andan enhanced DBSregistered to theUpdate Service(or be willing to apply for one).
