Job summary

TeacherActive are recruiting an SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a dedicated SEMH provision in Ashton in Makerfield. The role involves supporting learners with SEMH needs on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, helping pupils self-regulate and engage in learning with trauma-informed strategies.

You will work alongside qualified staff to implement behaviour support plans, assist with resources and observations, and collaborate with teachers and pastoral teams to create a calm, consistent learning

Qualifications

• Experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs.
• Strong understanding of behaviour, emotional regulation and social development.
• Ability to remain calm, patient and empathetic under pressure.
• Skilled in forming positive relationships and offering reassurance and structure.
• Resilient, proactive and committed to improving outcomes for vulnerable pupils.

Responsibilities

• Support learners with SEMH needs on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
• Help pupils self-regulate, develop confidence and engage positively in learning.
• Implement SEMH strategies and behaviour support plans alongside qualified staff.
• Promote a calm, consistent and trauma-aware classroom environment.
• Assist with lesson resources, differentiation and pupil observations.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff and pastoral teams.
