Job summary

Teaching Personnel are seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in North Manchester from September. You will support pupils with SEMH needs, helping them regulate emotions and engage in learning throughout the day.

With a calm, proactive approach, you will work 1:1 and in small groups, building trusted relationships and collaborating with teachers to create a safe, supportive environment where every pupil can progress.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting or understanding SEMH and behavioural needs.
  • Calm, patient and resilient approach.
  • Confidence managing dysregulated behaviour.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to provide consistent 1:1 support and guidance.
  • Full-time availability and commitment to a long-term position.
  • Proactive and solution-focused attitude.
  • Experience in SEMH, SEN or specialist education settings.

Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with SEMH needs in and out of the classroom.
  • Manage challenging behaviours using de‑escalation strategies.
  • Encourage emotional regulation, resilience and positive social interactions.
  • Build trusting relationships to support pupil development.
  • Collaborate with teachers, SEN staff and school teams.
  • Maintain a structured, safe and nurturing learning environment.
  • Provide focused 1:1 support where required.
