Job summary

Protocol Education is partnering with a specialist SEMH provision in Middlesbrough to recruit a confident and compassionate Teaching Assistant. You will support pupils with SEMH needs, helping them manage emotions, de-escalate situations, and stay engaged in learning and wellbeing.

You’ll work 1:1 or in small groups and collaborate with staff to provide stable daily routines. Applicants should have experience with SEMH/SEND or challenging behaviour, stay calm under pressure, and demonstrate

Qualifications

• Experience with SEMH, SEND or challenging behaviour in schools or similar settings.
• Calm, patient and consistent approach in high-pressure situations.
• Ability to build strong, positive relationships with pupils.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils with SEMH needs and help manage emotions.
• De-escalate situations and refocus students.
• Work 1:1 or in small groups to support learning and wellbeing.
• Collaborate with teachers, pastoral staff and external professionals.
• Be a consistent, calm, reliable presence throughout the day.
