Job description

Teaching Personnel are working with SEN schools in Portsmouth who seek a skilled and resilient Teaching Assistant to work with students who have Social Emotional and Mental Health needs.
You will be supporting children with SEMH needs, including emotional regulation challenges and difficulties with peer interaction. You'll be working closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement an individualised support plan that promotes progress both academically and socially.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide consistent 1:1 SEMH support throughout the school day.
  • Implement tailored behaviour strategies to support self-regulation and concentration in class.
  • Communicate with relevant professionals to best support the pupils' individual needs.
  • Encourage social inclusion and engagement during lessons and breaks.
  • Create a calm, structured environment while promoting positive behaviour.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Previous experience working with children with special needs, particularly SEMH or behavioural needs.
  • A relevant qualification to support children with SEMH needs is desirable.
  • Experienced TA's are highly encouraged to apply.
  • Understanding of positive behaviour support techniques.
  • Able to display resilience and an adaptability to the varied needs of pupils.
  • A passion for supporting vulnerable pupils to thrive and develop in a structured and supportive environment.
