Job summary

Leicester City Council's SEND Support Services are expanding their Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) Team. This peripatetic role supports schools and pupils across Leicester city, with some remote work from other council settings or home.

You will be a qualified teacher with SEND/SEMH experience, assess needs, mentor staff, contribute to EHCPs, and collaborate with multi‑agency partners to deliver inclusive practice.

Qualifications

• QTS with substantial SEND/SEMH experience.
• Awareness of EHCP processes and multi‑agency work.
• DBS enhanced clearance is required.

Description: Full Time/ 32.5 Hours Per Week/ Fixed Term for 12 months due to funding. Are you passionate about the inclusion of pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental health needs and want to support schools to expand their inclusive offer? This is an exciting opportunity to join our expanding Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) Team within Leicester City Council's SEND Support Services. Due to continued growth and increasing demand for specialist SEMH support across the city, we are looking for an experienced and passionate teacher with outstanding skills to become part of our dynamic, peripatetic team. We welcome applications from all education provisions but particularly from teachers with experience in secondary schools – including pastoral roles, specialist provisions and alternative provisions. Based at New Parks House, you will work as part of a dynamic and supportive group of SEMH specialist teachers and practitioners. The role is peripatetic, supporting schools, children and young people across Leicester city, with some remote work from other council settings or home.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Assessment and inclusive guidance — assessing needs, offering recommendations, and monitoring progress.
• Mentoring, coaching and advising school staff at all levels — guiding support strategies, SEND processes and policies, and the development of Individual Support Plans.
• Multi‑agency collaboration — contributing to EHCPs, pastoral meetings, core groups, and TAC/TAF processes. Developing strong working relationships with a variety of professionals to support creation and continuation of professionals teams around children, for example, other specialist teams, Youth Justice, Social Care, Early Help, Education Welfare.
• Some direct work with pupils — modelling and coaching alongside school or provision staff, to develop social skills, resilience, emotional literacy, and confidence through individual, group, or whole‑class interventions.
• Supporting children who are awaiting specialist placements — offering interim SEMH support, advising schools on graduated responses, and helping maintain stability and engagement while specialist provision is being arranged.
• Working closely with parents and carers – this may include supporting meetings at school / provisions, as well as home visits to gain understanding of the child or young person’s needs, supporting school / provision and the family through signposting to wider services, obtaining pupil voice and the voice of parents / carers too.
• Training development — designing and delivering SEMH‑focused training for school/ provision staff alongside SEMH or other specialist team colleagues. These may be held within cluster groups, at individual school or provision or at city wide events.
• Transition support — ensuring smooth transitions between settings, including close work with PRUs and Designated Specialist Provisions.

Who We’re Looking For

You will be a qualified teacher (QTS) with substantial experience supporting pupils with SEND and SEMH needs. We are especially interested in applicants with backgrounds in:

• Secondary education, including pastoral roles
• Specialist SEMH or SEND provisions
• Alternative provision settings
