Job summary

TLTP Education is seeking an SEMH English Teacher for a specialist secondary provision in Coggeshall, Essex. You will deliver engaging English lessons, on a one-to-one or small-group basis, with EHCPs and ILPs guiding learning goals.

You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, differentiate lessons, and implement targeted interventions to raise attainment while maintaining high behavioural expectations.

Qualifications

  • QT S or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Experience teaching English at secondary level.
  • Experience working with SEMH/SEN/ASD learners.
  • Proven track record of securing positive outcomes for young people.
  • Excellent classroom and behaviour management.
  • Ability to plan differentiated, engaging lessons.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and inclusion.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging English lessons tailored to SEMH/SEND learners.
  • Develop schemes of work, medium-term and short-term plans.
  • Differentiate learning to ensure access to the curriculum.
  • Monitor progress, provide feedback and set targets.
  • Produce ILPs and SEN Passports; contribute to EHCP reviews.
  • Promote literacy across the curriculum and deliver interventions.
  • Build positive relationships and provide pastoral support.
  • Collaborate with TAs and colleagues to maximise outcomes.
  • Maintain high behaviour and engagement in line with policy.
  • Create a stimulating, safe classroom environment.
  • Communicate progress with parents/carers.
  • Participate in meetings and professional development.

Are you an enthusiastic English Teacher with a passion for supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate professional to join our specialist secondary provision, where every day offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference.

This is an exciting opportunity to teach and inspire students with a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, PDA, OCD and ODD, in a supportive environment that prioritises individual progress, wellbeing and achievement.

About the Role

As an SEMH English Teacher, you will deliver engaging, high-quality English lessons to students on either a one-to-one basis or in small group settings. All students have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), with Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) tailored to their individual outcomes and aspirations.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will create an inclusive learning environment where students feel safe, valued and empowered to reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

You will:

  • Plan and deliver engaging English lessons that meet the individual needs of learners with SEMH and SEND.
  • Develop schemes of work, medium-term and short-term planning that promote progress and engagement.
  • Differentiate learning to ensure every student can access the curriculum and achieve success.
  • Monitor, assess and record student progress, providing constructive feedback and setting ambitious but achievable targets.
  • Produce and review Individual Learning Plans (ILPs), SEN Passports and contribute to annual EHCP reviews and provision mapping.
  • Promote literacy across the curriculum while supporting students to overcome barriers to learning.
  • Deliver targeted interventions to accelerate progress and raise attainment.
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with students, providing pastoral support where required.
  • Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants, HLTAs and colleagues to ensure the best possible outcomes for learners.
  • Maintain high expectations for behaviour, engagement and achievement in line with the school's behaviour policy.
  • Create a stimulating, safe and well-organised classroom environment.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and carers regarding student progress and development.
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school, attending meetings, training and professional development opportunities.

About You

The successful candidate will have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
  • Experience teaching English at secondary level.
  • Experience working with students with SEMH, SEN and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
  • A proven track record of securing positive outcomes for young people.
  • Excellent classroom and behaviour management skills.
  • The ability to create innovative, engaging and differentiated lesson plans.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • A proactive, resilient and compassionate approach to teaching.
  • A commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and ensuring every student can achieve their potential.
