Job summary

Smile Education is seeking an experienced SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive SEN school in the Tamworth area on a long-term, full-time basis. This role focuses on pupils with SEMH needs and involves building trust with students who may present challenging behaviours.

You will support learning, help regulate emotions, and work closely with teachers and the wider school team to promote engagement and progress throughout the school day.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children with SEMH needs.
• Relevant Teaching Assistant, Childcare, Education or equivalent qualification.
• Strong behaviour management skills to support challenging behaviour.
• Patient, resilient, and consistent approach in a school setting.
• References commenting on SEMH experience are required.

Smile Education are recruiting! Smile Education are currently looking for an experienced SEMH Teaching Assistant to join one of their supportive SEN schools in the Tamworth area on a long-term, full-time basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated and experienced Teaching Assistant who has a strong understanding of Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and can build positive, trusting relationships with children who may present with challenging behaviours.

The Role

• Supporting a child with identified SEMH needs within an SEN school environment
• Providing consistent, positive and nurturing support throughout the school day
• Working closely with teaching staff and the wider school team
• Supporting the child's emotional regulation, engagement and learning
• Using effective behaviour management and de-escalation strategies

The Successful Candidate Will:

• Have considerable experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs
• Hold a relevant Teaching Assistant, Childcare, Education or equivalent qualification
• Have strong behaviour management skills and confidence supporting challenging behaviour
• Be patient, resilient and consistent in their approach
• Be able to build strong, positive relationships with pupils
• Be able to provide references that specifically comment on their experience and interaction with children with SEMH needs
• Be committed to the role on a long-term, full-time basis
• Work effectively as part of a wider school and support team
