Job summary

Justteachers Ltd is seeking an enthusiastic SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist provision in Birmingham, starting September 2026. You will support students with social, emotional, and mental health needs and help them overcome barriers to learning.

You will deliver targeted interventions, support with EHCP targets where applicable, and work with staff to adapt activities while maintaining progress records.

Qualifications

• Experience in SEMH, SEND, alternative provision or youth support setting.
• Understanding of trauma-informed approaches and behaviour management strategies.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Calm under pressure and respond effectively to challenging situations.
• Proactive and flexible approach to supporting learners.
• Qualifications are advantageous but not essential.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support students both inside and outside the classroom.
• Deliver targeted interventions to improve engagement, confidence and wellbeing.
• Assist in managing challenging behaviour using positive behaviour strategies.
• Encourage students to develop social skills, resilience and self-esteem.
• Support the implementation of EHCP targets where applicable.
• Work alongside teaching staff to adapt learning activities to individual needs.
• Maintain accurate records of student progress and behaviour.

Pre-requisites:

• Experience working within an SEMH, SEND, alternative provision or youth support setting.
• Understanding of trauma-informed approaches and behaviour management strategies.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond effectively to challenging situations.
• A proactive and flexible approach to supporting learners.
• Relevant qualifications are advantageous but not essential.
