Job summary

The Education Specialists are recruiting on behalf of a specialist education provision in Greater Manchester for a dedicated Teaching Assistant (SEMH/SEN). The role focuses on supporting students with SEMH and SEN, building positive relationships, managing behaviour, and contributing to a safe, structured learning environment.

You will support teachers, deliver interventions, and help implement EHCP targets and risk assessments, enabling learners to engage and progress.

Qualifications

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths that satisfy entry requirements.
  • Experience working with children or young people in education, care or support settings.
  • Experience supporting SEMH, SEN or behavioural needs with calm communication.
  • Strong behaviour management and professional demeanour.

Responsibilities

  • Build strong relationships to support students’ emotional, social and academic development.
  • Implement personalised plans including EHCP targets and risk assessments.
  • De-escalate challenging behaviours and deliver 1:1 or small group interventions.
  • Support learning by removing barriers and promoting participation.
  • Assist with lesson delivery and prepare differentiated resources.
  • Record progress and communicate with staff and carers as needed.
