Job summary

The Education Specialists are recruiting on behalf of a specialist education provision in Greater Manchester for a dedicated Teaching Assistant (SEMH/SEN). The role focuses on supporting students with SEMH and SEN, building positive relationships, managing behaviour, and contributing to a safe, structured learning environment.

You will support teachers, deliver interventions, and help implement EHCP targets and risk assessments, enabling learners to engage and progress.

Qualifications

GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths that satisfy entry requirements.
Experience working with children or young people in education, care or support settings.
Experience supporting SEMH, SEN or behavioural needs with calm communication.
Strong behaviour management and professional demeanour.

Responsibilities

Build strong relationships to support students’ emotional, social and academic development.
Implement personalised plans including EHCP targets and risk assessments.
De-escalate challenging behaviours and deliver 1:1 or small group interventions.
Support learning by removing barriers and promoting participation.
Assist with lesson delivery and prepare differentiated resources.
Record progress and communicate with staff and carers as needed.
