Job summary

TeacherActive is recruiting on behalf of a specialist secondary school in Basildon, Essex, for a SEMH-focused Qualified Teacher with QTS to start September 2026. It is a permanent, full-time role with a competitive MPS/UPS plus SEND allowance.

You will deliver engaging lessons, build trusted relationships with SEMH pupils, create an inclusive, nurturing classroom, and collaborate with teaching assistants and pastoral staff to support both academic and social development.

Qualifications

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Experience with SEMH/SEND or interest in it is desirable.
  • Strong behaviour management and resilience are essential.

TeacherActive is proud to be recruiting on behalf of a specialist secondary school in Basildon, Essex, seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Qualified Teacher (QTS) with experience or a strong interest in Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) education.

The Role

As an SEMH Secondary Teacher, you will:

  • Deliver engaging and differentiated lessons across your subject specialism.

  • Build positive, trusting relationships with students with SEMH needs.

  • Create a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment.

  • Work collaboratively with teaching assistants, therapists, and the wider pastoral team.

  • Support students to develop both academically and socially through personalised learning approaches.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

  • Holds Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

  • Has experience working with students with SEMH, SEND, or other additional needs (desirable but not essential).

  • Demonstrates excellent behaviour management skills and a calm, resilient approach.

  • Is passionate about making a lasting difference to the lives of young people.

  • Has high expectations and a commitment to inclusive education.
