About GSL and the Provision

GSL is working closely with a secondary provision in Wandsworth, dedicated to children who have experienced trauma or have social and emotional needs.

They are seeking proactive and encouraging support staff with an interest in supporting mental health or social difficulties.

The Provision

The provision adopts a trauma-informed approach to education for children across primary and secondary levels. It has two sites for pupils progressing to KS3. Pupils often experience social difficulties such as trauma and social-emotional mental health challenges.

The Job

This role is also suitable for Mental Health Workers, Youth Workers, Support Workers, Foster Carers, and individuals with experience with Looked After Children (LAC) or CAMHS, due to the complex needs of pupils.

The provision emphasizes a positive behaviour management approach, with an in-house behaviour lead and a policy of no rewards and no consequences, which helps pupils regulate emotions and engage in education.

Responsibilities
  • Managing behaviours in class related to social and emotional mental health needs (SEMH) for pupils aged 11-16.
  • Supporting pupils with learning, therapy, and social activities.
  • Being flexible and adaptable to meet individual pupil needs.
  • Assisting with recording pupil progress and attending reviews, multi-agency meetings, and parents' evenings as required.
  • Working hours: 8:30 am - 4:00 pm, full-time, Monday to Friday.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience supporting children with SEMH or EHCPs.
  • Experience working in secondary schools or alternative education is highly desirable but not essential.
